*Bad pun to catch your attention, over* πŸ˜…
It's been literally ages since I first tried this Dutch gin, and just recently got back to it again:

With slightly saline notes, Hermit Gin brings the 'Coastal' aspect to our glass. Something I really really enjoy (similar to the Ilse of Harris or Edinburgh Seaside Gins) πŸ‘Œ

A Mediterranean tonic underpins this herbaceous touch even further, while I personally preferred it with a classic Indian tonic. A fresh grapefruit works well as garnish, the dehydrated fruit even better (visually πŸ˜‰)

Ginstagram, do you like a saline touch in your drink? Even if it's not a Margarita? 😁
Cheers!

"How do you prefer your Martinez - with Genever, O "How do you prefer your Martinez - with Genever, Old Tom Gin or London Dry Gin?" πŸ“£β£

⁣
I was asked by Matthias aka @servedbysoberon a few weeks ago and want to forward this question to you all: what do you typically go for? πŸ€”β£
⁣
I have a clear order of choice for this cocktail:⁣
1. Old Tom Gin⁣
2. Genever⁣
3. London Dry⁣
⁣
I just like to indulge in a little more sweetness when stirring a Martinez, can't help it! For this one, I combined two grape-based ingredients: Winestillery's Old Tom from Tuscany and Ferdinand's Sweet Vermouth from the German Saar region 🀀⁣
⁣
But don't be fooled! The result isn't an overly sweet drink. Bear in mind that it's a 'spirit-only' cocktail which really packs a punch! I would go as far as to say that I like it - when done right - even more than a Negroni. Oops! Am I even allowed to say that? πŸ™ŠπŸ₯ƒβ£

I think I told you about my recent blood orange haul, did I? 😏

Even though this drink might appear a bit 'messy' to some, it's actually a great refresher for the warmer days... wait. Did I say warmer days? Yes, I firmly believe we'll eventually get there 😌

Anyhow, here is the EASY recipe to this blood orange G&T:
- Gin of choice
- Juice of one blood orange
- Large ice cube
- Top off with tonic water

The measures are really up to your preference. I went lower on the gin, which is counter-intuitive for me (haha) but, as I said, great for a thirst quencher once the sun is out!

Cheers and happy thirst quenching!

That time of year again?! 🀩 [Ad/Werbung] Whil That time of year again?! 🀩

[Ad/Werbung]

While this may not be thΓ© prettiest picture I have taken, it very much captures my mood these past few days:

Finally time for roof(top) G&Ts again!!! 😍

The weather held up to the calendar at last, sunny days and longer evenings, enjoyable temperatures and positive vibes brightened the mood - time for summery refreshers, don't you think? β˜€οΈ

The Flor de Sevilla Gin is certainly a rather special Tanqueray expression. Not my favorite one to be honest, but it can be nice from time to time. Paired with a (very) dry tonic and some fried citrus fruits, this one set the scene for a perfect weekend πŸ‘ŒπŸ˜Ž

Ginstagram, here's to spring and good feelings 🍹

Special gin alert.... ! 🌟

[Ad/Werbung]

Some spirits are special (to their owners) because of their production method, some because of a story attached to them... and others for precisely BOTH reasons.

This Sherry Cask finished Koskue Gin by KyrΓΆ Distillery is - hands down - one of the most interesting aged gins I've had so far. I am generally rather critical about the idea of ageing gins. I just feel like many brands/producers do it (and some don't even do it thoroughly) just to set their already ridiculous price tags even higher. Not good, imho... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

What do you think? Agree? Disagree?

And then there is the KyrΓΆ gang, potentially the craziest Fins to ever hit a still and known for their class spirits. This expression is no different and just an excellent neat sip! PLUS: it's fairly approachable for what it is (below 40€/bottle in my case) πŸ‘Œ

To the story part: found it at @yourbar.de half a year ago during my first visit, being the last bottle of its kind in the shelf. I already had 6 other gins in my cart so I asked if they would save it "for later"... which they actually did! Unexpectedly, upon my next entry to the store a few weeks ago, they were already waving at me - with this bottle in hand! Such a class act! πŸ‘

Ginstagram, here is to the rare finds and good sips! Cheers!

Time for my thoughts on this one... 🧐 [Ad/Werb Time for my thoughts on this one... 🧐

[Ad/Werbung]

Am I critical when it comes to flavored* gins?
Very much, indeed!

Did I expect yet another overly sweet marketing-product when hearing about this one?
Most definitely I didn't!

Knowing (and enjoying) the Elephant Gin range for years already, I had full trust in them when I heard they were releasing an Orange & Cocoa Gin! And what should I say? My trust was totally justified! 🐘

This gin is really a gin! What?

It brings super warm orange notes to your nose and palate. The cocoa shines through in a second layer but is unlike chocolate. Much more like raw or even roasted cocoa beans. A real evolution of flavors throughout the sip, because...

What strikes me most is that it leaves you with quite the dry mouth feel, proving that - yes - it's a gin and there is good juniper in it!! 🀩

The makers recommend pairing it with a Mediterranean tonic which worked really nicely. But, to be honest, I could easily sip the entire bottle as it stands and on its own πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

* Elephant Gin use both the oranges as well as the cocoa beans in the process of distillation as opposed to other flavored gins which see the flavors added post-distillation.

Blood Orange Gin Sour, anyone? 🍊❀️ [Ad/Wer Blood Orange Gin Sour, anyone? 🍊❀️

[Ad/Werbung]

If I had to name ONE favorite seasonal fruit it would definitely be the blood orange! Imagine how happy I was when I snapped a bag (okay, a couple of bags, I should say) lately just when I thought the season had already ended 😍

This drink right here, besides ticking all the usual instagram-worthy, algo-favorable crowd pleaser boxes (don't judge!), is going all in on the juicy citrus fruits:

- 60 ml Blood Orange Gin
- 15 ml Blood Orange Juice
- 15 ml Lemon Juice
- 10 ml Simple Syrup
- 1 Egg White
... dry shake, wet shake and double strain into your preferred coupe/fizz glass. Garnish with - little surprise - a dehydrated blood orange wheel 🍸

My excitement for the fruit is real, so get ready for one or the other blood orange drink still to come 😌

Do you have a favorite seasonal fruit? What drink do you mix with it? πŸ‘‡

Is this your Easter Bunny? πŸ‡β   [Ad/Werbung Is this your Easter Bunny? πŸ‡β

[Ad/Werbung]

Not quite! Who knows what 'animal' decorates this bottle, which for itself is an absolute beauty as such?

Unlike my personal first guess, "Gunpowder" has nothing to do with the ABV of the Drumshanbo Irish Gin - it's not a Navy Strength spirit, as one may like to think.

Gunpowder is a tea which originates in East-Asia. So do some of the other botanicals in here: caraway seed, kaffir lime and Indonesian grapefruit. So, what's Irish about it, after all?

Well, the gin is distilled by The Shed Distillery, sitting in-midst Irelands green North, in Drumshanbo. Also, local meadowsweet is used in the gin, which presents a crazy mix of grassy, green aromas paired with oriental spices.

I expected something completely different when I first tried it about two years ago, to be honest. The tea leaves (and kaffir lime), which are added via vapor-infusion, really give it a distinct "green" taste.

It pairs really well with a bitter pink-grapefruit and a slightly sweet tonic. The bottle is a beauty in any shelf and the only thing I wonder: didn't I recall this to be a 70cl flask, originall?

Happy Easter and cheers to all of you!

Finishing my month-long London Dry rallye with one of the first gins to ever hit my shelf and not leaving since: the one and only Beefeater Gin (the 47% ABV version, of course) πŸ’‚β€β™‚οΈ

Widely disregarded as being 'boring', 'old' or even 'cheap'. Nonsense, in my eyes. Just look at how long this chap has been around (1860s or 1870s...) and remember the saying "quality never goes out of style" πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ

I happened to find one of these Pink Pepper tonics when cleaning up lately and it worked nicely with this classic, juniper-forward example of quality distilling. The pepper corns are just for the looks, I actually hate having them in drinks (and filtered them out before enjoying this fine G&T)

Ginstagram, what's the most underrated gin in your opinion? My one is displayed just up there 🀩

Have a great thirsty Thursday! Cheers!

PS: as a side note, master distiller Desmond Payne is not only an expert of his craft, he's also a really funny guy!

PPS: yes, I sometimes use my left-over ice for drinking drinks. It's still 'better' than most bought ice cubes 🧊
